Capability Erosion Dynamics

چکیده
The notion of capability is widely invoked to explain differences in organizational performance and research shows that strategically relevant capabilities can be both built and lost. However, while capability development is widely studied, capability erosion has not been integrated into our understanding of performance heterogeneity. To understand erosion, we study two software development organizations that experienced diverging capability trajectories despite similar organizational and technological settings. Building a simulation-based theory, we identify the adaptation trap, a mechanism through which managerial learning can lead to capability erosion: well-intentioned efforts by managers to search locally for the optimal workload balance lead them to systematically overload their organization and, thereby, cause capabilities to erode. The analysis of our model informs when capability erosion is likely and strategically relevant. This is the pre-peer reviewed version of the following article: "Capability Erosion Dynamics." Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Sand Particle Concentration on Long Radius Elbow Erosion for Liquid-Solid Flow
Erosion caused by sand transportation in flow changing devices is a serious concern in the hydrocarbon and mineral processing industry, which entail to failure and malfunction of flow devices. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with discrete phase models (DPM) were employed for analysis of carbon steel long radius 90-Degree elbow erosion due to the sand concentration of 2, 5 and ...
متن کاملModeling Past Episodes of Erosion in the Lake Orūmiye (Urmia) Basin: Analogues for Future Landscape Dynamics
During the Holocene Lake Orūmiye has been subjected to significant changes in climate. These have impacted the surround vegetation and runoff, and erosion rates of the surrounding basin. Shifts in seasonal rainfall from winter to summer dominated patterns have resulted in dramatic changes in the Orūmiye Basin’s vegetation cover from grass to shrub dominated communities. The degree of ground sur...
متن کاملDYNAMICS OF MUDBANKS ALONG A COAST EXPERIENCING RECURRING EPISODES OF EROSION AND ACCRETION
The morphological states of Guyana’s coastal system, at various spatial and temporal scales, are found to be influenced by the formation and migration of mudbanks. Stationary and propagating mudbanks along the coast are investigated with the use of multiple data sources, including aerial photographs, satellite imagery, GPS measurements, and a time series of coastal profile data (1941-1987...
متن کاملDynamics of Soil Organic Carbon and Microbial Biomass Carbon in Relation to Water Erosion and Tillage Erosion
Dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) are associated with soil erosion, yet there is a shortage of research concerning the relationship between soil erosion, SOC, and especially microbial biomass carbon (MBC). In this paper, we selected two typical slope landscapes including gentle and steep slopes from the Sichuan Basin, China, and used the (137)Cs technique to determine the effects of water e...
متن کاملInvestigation of Poly latise Polymer Capability in Soil Conservation AgainstWind Erosion Case Study: Gahrdo Sirik
Wind erosion due to lack of rainfall is one of the most significant desertification processes in many parts of the world Iran, because of its latitudinal location geographically and lack of rainfall, is faced with this dilemma. Recent droughts in Hormozgan Province have destroyed sparse desert vegetation and increased the process of desertification, which resulted in wind erosion in the vu...
